Show 2.32, “The Humanimal Kingdom”

While you may not believe it from the mass-produced mainstream clips full to the brim with backup dancers, music videos can be a terrific way to provide a short, unique and sometimes completely bizarre story. That is exactly what director Matt Vesely gave us with the video for “Cut You Out”, a song from Adelaide’s Hawks of Alba. Produced as part of the Music Resource Centre and Music SA’s Clip-It! Initiative the film clip will have you looking at hand puppets in a completely different light.

Rebecca spoke to Matt about the video, which won the South Australian Screen Award (SASA) for best Music Video this year.

What do you think of when I say the words ‘Humanimal Communication’? Well I hope a scene from the movie Splice isn’t the first thing to pop into your head, because it’s actually all about the relationships that we as humans have with animals, whether it be our lovable pet or a serious phobia. Humanimal communication is what local production company Sugar Smack plans to show in their next web series.

Aimee Knight, co-director of Sugar Smack joined us in the studio to talk about this project, as well as their work for the YWCA SHE Leads conference.

And of course it wouldn’t be Behind the Screens without some good old love for film music, especially with The Sapphires soundtrack hitting number one. We even dropped a bit of Game of Thrones talk in there for the hardcore fans out there.
