Show 2.20, “Local Produce”

Helen Leake with Beck and Chrissy

Helen Leake has been producing feature films for nearly 20 years. Her new film Swerve, in cinemas from June 7, was filmed in South Australia using SA crew and facilities. She called it an Australian film noir – something I’d love to see more of!

Outside of producing, Helen was also CEO of South Australian Film Corporation between 2004 and 2007 and was a commissioner at the Australian Film Commission (now known as Screen Australia). She’s currently co-chair of the Australian International Documentary Conference

We were lucky enough to have Helen in the studio to pick her brain about “Swerve” and what it’s like to be a producer in Australia.

Audio coming soon but you can listen to the entire show below – Helen’s interview starts at 3’15

We did introduce the show mentioning that new filmmaker Tim will be joining us but due to tricksy public transport he couldn’t make it in. We did, however, have a chat about the new Rebrand SA movement and Scott Hick’s recent comments on it. Should SA change its name? Or is that neither here nor there and is a completely derailing suggestion? … Guess which side we’re on.
